In its post, the embassy said the 104-year friendship is built on shared values and drew attention to a special symbol preserved in the embassy’s corridors today: an official seal dating back to the 1930s that survived decades of dictatorship and isolation thanks to the courage of an Albanian family.

According to the embassy, after the Italian invasion of Albania in 1939 and the closure of the American Legation, Loni Adami and his wife, Andromaqi, risked everything to hide the official seal, safeguarding it for more than four decades.

“104 years of US–Albania friendship, built on shared values and forged across generations. The proof hangs in our hallways today: our Embassy’s official seal, dating back to the 1930s. When the American Legation closed after the invasion of Albania in 1939, Loni Adami and his wife, Andromaqi, risked everything to hide the seal, protecting it for more than 40 years. When diplomatic relations were finally restored, they revealed its hiding place in the Chancery basement—and that very same seal remains with us today. A friendship that history could not break,”the embassy wrote.
