Pogradec commemorated the 114th anniversary of the Albanian flag raising at Guri i Kamjes, a historic event for the regions of Gorë, Mokër and Opar.
On July 28, 1912, Kapedan Kajo Babeni led hundreds of fighters from Mokër and Opar in their fight against Ottoman rule. Shahin Matraku and other patriotic leaders also joined the movement.
After their victory, the fighters raised the Albanian flag at Guri i Kamjes. The moment became a symbol of freedom, resistance and unity for the local communities.
Pogradec Mayor Ilir Xhakolli said the anniversary honours the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for Albania’s freedom. He added that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Today, Guri i Kamjes stands as both a natural monument and a popular tourist attraction. The site connects history with nature and highlights the cultural and tourism values of the region.
