TIRANA, June 12 – Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj told parliament that Durana Technology Park remains a strategic government project for innovation, technology and foreign investment. She said transparency and openness to businesses guide the park’s operations.
During the plenary session, Ibrahimaj stated that the government continues to inform citizens, businesses and potential investors about the project. According to her, Durana aims to create a new economic ecosystem for information technology companies, students and young entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, the minister rejected opposition criticism of the park. She argued that the allegations do not reflect its actual operation. Ibrahimaj added that the government based the model on legal standards and international practices for special economic and technology zones.
In addition, she said the project seeks to create a competitive environment for innovation and technology investment. The initiative also aims to increase information technology service exports. Ibrahimaj noted that the sector has recorded significant growth in recent years.
Later, the minister described Durana as more than a physical space or a fiscal regime. She said the park represents an economic development model focused on innovation, research and value-added activities.
At the same time, Ibrahimaj rejected claims that the project creates a preferential tax regime that conflicts with OECD standards. She also dismissed suggestions that a limited group of entities receives privileged treatment.
According to the minister, 42 new entities expressed interest in joining Durana between January and June 2026. Authorities approved 28 applications. Another 11 applicants have completed the process and await contract signing. Durana currently hosts 82 active residents, with international entities accounting for about half of them.
