$6 Billion LNG Deal with the U.S., Rama: A Step Toward Energy Independence

Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his podcast “Flasim” that the $6 billion agreement with the United States and Greecewill enable Albania to be supplied with liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 20 years.

Rama emphasized that this investment is expected to create a stable foundation for diversifying the country’s energy sources.

Another element of the agreement, according to Rama, is the connection of Vlora with Fier through a pipeline, integrating the thermal power plant (TPP) into the regional energy network, “which will make Vlora an important hub for the utilization and export of gas through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).”

“We signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the development of the Vlora Energy Hub and the supply of Albania with liquefied natural gas, in close partnership with the United States. Following the significant investment to complete and transform the Vlora TPP—a structure that needs to be complemented with another component, but which was originally built to operate on oil and will in fact operate on gas—Albania will be supplied with American LNG for a 20-year period. Through the Vlora TPP, it will generate electricity, creating a stable foundation for its diversified energy sovereignty portfolio. Alongside this energy source, the volume of new investments will increase significantly, as well as Albania’s capacity to power data centers and artificial intelligence programs that will define the coming decade,” Rama said, among other remarks.
