Vath Koreshi is being commemorated today, marking 90 years since his birth in Lushnjë on May 7, 1936.
Koreshi became one of the most influential figures in Albanian literature and cinema. He wrote novels and film scripts that shaped modern Albanian cultural identity.
He studied Albanian language and literature at the University of Tirana. Later, he worked as a journalist, cultural institution leader, and politician.
Meanwhile, he served as Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1991–1992. He also served as a member of the Albanian Parliament.
Koreshi produced several well-known novels, including “Dasma e Sakos”, “Ulku dhe Ylli”, and “Requiem për një grua”. His work often explored human emotion, identity, and social change.
In addition, he left a strong mark on Albanian cinema. He wrote screenplays for films such as Gjeneral Gramafoni, Rrugë të bardha, and Balada e Kurbinit.
Koreshi was awarded the title Nderi i Kombit for his cultural contribution.
He died in Rome in 2006, but his literary and artistic legacy continues to influence Albanian culture today.
