New US Ambassador Eric Wendt arrived in Tirana on Friday. He is expected to present his credentials to President Bajram Begaj on Saturday.
The ceremony will take place at 11:00 at the Palace of Brigades. Begaj and Wendt are also expected to hold a private meeting.
The US Senate confirmed Wendt in June by 51 votes to 47. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee had earlier approved his nomination by 19 votes to three.
Wendt is a retired US Army officer with more than 34 years of service. He has also held senior positions in international security structures, including as commander of NATO Special Operations Forces Command. He served as US Security Coordinator for the Israeli-Palestinian Authority from 2017 to 2019 and as chief of staff at the US Pacific Command.
Wendt graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and completed postgraduate studies in national security at the Naval Postgraduate School.
