Florin Hoxha, Florida Hoxha and Eris Cani are the three Albanians reported missing beneath the rubble of a building that collapsed following a powerful explosion in the Plaka area of Athens. Florin Hoxha and Florida Hoxha are brother and sister, while Eris Cani is Florida Hoxha’s husband.
They are among those who remain missing after the explosion that rocked Lysikratous Street, in the heart of Athens, on Friday morning. So far, search and rescue teams have recovered two bodies from the rubble.
After the body of a woman was recovered in the early hours of the morning, a second body was also pulled from the debris. According to a spokesperson for the Fire Department, the second body was that of a 77-year-old British citizen.
The operation to locate the remaining missing people is continuing intensively. Around 30 firefighters with six vehicles are at the scene, including two special EMAK vehicles, as well as three search-and-rescue dogs.
Rescuers are also using geophones to detect possible voices beneath the rubble, while special cameras are being used to inspect the remaining spaces within the collapsed building.
Meanwhile, Greek authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion. According to preliminary information, it is suspected that the incident may have been caused by a natural gas leak.
