Prime Minister Edi Rama responded to opposition demands for explanations regarding the appointment of Vlora Hyseni as head of Albania’s State Intelligence Service (SHISH).
In a message from Mother Teresa International Airport, Rama said that Hyseni’s appointment to lead the State Intelligence Service was also based on assessments and references that, according to him, she had received from international partners.
“The investigation and trial of Vlora Hyseni are exclusively a matter for the justice system, while protecting SHISH is the responsibility of the state,” Rama said, adding that the National Security Council is the institution where cases involving leaders or members of security institutions who become subject to investigation should be discussed.
Rama said that he had valued Hyseni’s work and that she had initially worked alongside him as a security adviser. According to the Prime Minister, she was later appointed to lead SHISH based on references from international partners, which he described as “excellent.”
“Vlora Hyseni owes a great moral debt to this country,” Rama said.
