The Albanian Parliament will host the Inter-Parliamentary Conference “A Strategic Agenda for EU Enlargement and Albania’s Accession” tomorrow, Sept. 28, in Tirana.
The conference will bring together representatives of Albanian institutions, the European Parliament and parliaments from other European countries. Participants will discuss the EU enlargement process and Albania’s path toward membership. The Parliament’s official conference documents also describe the event as a platform for parliamentary dialogue and the exchange of experiences on European integration.
Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi, Prime Minister Edi Rama, EU Ambassador to Albania Sofia Moreira de Sousa and European Parliament rapporteur for Albania Andreas Schieder are expected to deliver opening remarks.
Meanwhile, the conference will organize three discussion sessions on Albania’s European integration process.
The first session will examine the EU enlargement agenda and Albania’s path toward accession. The second will discuss enlargement as a strategic driver for reforms, stability and security. Finally, the third session will focus on parliamentary leadership and engagement in advancing European integration.
Igli Hasani, chair of the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs, will moderate the conference together with representatives of participating parliaments.
The discussions will also examine the role of national parliaments in the EU enlargement process. Participants will address the continuation of reforms and ways to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in support of Albania’s European integration.
The conference will provide a forum for European affairs committees from EU member states, Western Balkan countries and other candidate countries to exchange views on the future of EU enlargement.
