European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was welcomed by Prime Minister Edi Rama with an official ceremony at midday on Wednesday, as part of her visit to Tirana.
Von der Leyen arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office, where she was received by the head of the Albanian government. Her visit to Tirana is part of a tour of four Balkan countries. Albania’s progress in the European integration process is expected to be at the center of the talks.
During her stay in Tirana, Ursula von der Leyen is expected to hold meetings with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President Bajram Begaj.
The European Commission President is also visiting Albania with a plan for a special roadmap for Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Ukraine, aimed at helping these countries on their path toward European Union membership.
The plan includes priority reforms, indicative timelines and objectives for completing the various stages of the accession negotiations.
The discussions are also expected to focus on October 6, when a review of the EU’s pre-accession policy is expected to be presented, as well as October 15–16, when European Union leaders are due to discuss enlargement and internal reforms.
