PM Rama: Five projects to compete for redevelopment in Rinia Park

Prime Minister Edi Rama said five architectural proposals would compete in an international competition for the redevelopment of the “Taiwan” building in Tirana’s Rinia Park. He made the statement while presenting the Tirana Fountain Tower project. Rama said the capital now has different needs and ambitions from those of previous decades.

Rama said an international jury would assess the proposals. He stressed that Albania would entrust major urban projects to professionals with international profiles and careers in planning, architectural design and construction. He also noted that the project involves private property in the heart of Rinia Park. Its development will therefore have an impact on the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, Rama said the site had changed significantly over the decades. Rinia Park dates back to the 1950s, while the “Taiwan” building emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s. He said the current project aims to transform the site in line with Tirana’s present needs and ambitions. The international competition will determine the architectural proposal for the redevelopment.
