Vuno village declared historic centre in Himara

Vuno village on the Albanian Riviera has officially been declared a Historic Centre by a decision of Albania’s Council of Ministers. The decision strengthens institutional protection for the village’s architectural and historical heritage while creating new opportunities for tourism and the local economy.

Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo described the decision as an important step for preserving Vuno’s cultural heritage. He said the new status clearly defines the historic centre and introduces new requirements and restrictions to protect its character. Tavo added that the municipality would also seek similar status for Dhërmi and other historic centres in Himara.

Meanwhile, Tavo said the decision would increase visitor interest in Vuno and support tourism-related economic opportunities for local families. He stressed that any work on historic homes would require approval from the responsible cultural heritage institutions. Vuno is known for its traditional architecture, stone houses, distinctive streets and rich history.
