Bjarke Ingels Group has been announced as the winner of the international competition for “Tirana Fountain Plaza,” one of five architectural visions presented for Tirana 2030.
The new development, named “Tirana Fountain Plaza,” is expected to replace the existing building of the “Tajvani” complex.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the presentation of the five projects submitted as part of the international “Tirana Fountain Tower” competition.

During his remarks, Rama responded to criticism over urban development and construction projects in the capital, stressing that no one is forcibly removed from their home to make way for private investments.
The Prime Minister also rejected claims that there is a lack of rules governing development and defended the presence of foreign architects in Albania, describing the country as an “open university of architecture,” where local professionals can develop their skills alongside internationally renowned architects.
“It has never happened in Albania that someone has been forcibly removed from their home to make way for a private investment, nor has any private individual been denied their right to develop or not develop a project. As for those occupying properties who are part of the legalisation process, the law is very clear in their case as well, and we have never sided with the property owner or the developer. There is no guarantee that a rental contract will be provided to someone for a certain number of years and paid for by developers until the citizen enters the housing programmes administered by the municipality,” Rama said.
