Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Hoxha: Enlargement Is the Answer for a More Resilient Europe

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha took part in the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held in Pržno, Montenegro.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said that during the meeting, Hoxha reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to a safer, more competitive and better-connected Western Balkans, stressing that the security of the region and that of Europe are inseparable.

“In an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, the answer to our shared challenges lies in stronger cooperation, greater unity, and a more resilient Europe that is better equipped to address challenges,” Minister Hoxha said.

According to him, in the face of these challenges, the answer for Europe is the enlargement of the European Union.

“And for us, this has a name: enlargement. Not as a favour or a reward, but as a merit-based process supported by meaningful and impactful reforms, while at the same time serving as a strategic investment in Europe’s long-term security, stability and competitiveness,” Hoxha said.

The Foreign Minister also recalled that one of the most important lessons of the Berlin Process is that European integration begins within the countries themselves, long before they become members of the European Union.

He highlighted the importance of practical cooperation, mobility and people-to-people contacts, the mutual recognition of diplomas, regional connectivity and the Common Regional Market.

According to Hoxha, these processes represent concrete steps that improve citizens’ lives, strengthen ties among countries in the region and bring Western Balkan societies closer to the European Union.

“It moves forward through practical cooperation, mobility and people-to-people contacts, the mutual recognition of diplomas, connectivity and the Common Regional Market — in other words, through concrete achievements that improve citizens’ lives, deepen regional ties and bring our societies ever closer to the European Union,” Minister Hoxha concluded.
