Kurti: We have begun talks to reach an agreement on the president

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Friday that talks have begun on reaching an agreement for the election of the country’s president.

“We have started discussions and, of course, this weekend is crucial for reaching an agreement so that we can have a president next week,” Kurti said.

Political parties have until October 6 to reach an agreement on the election of the head of state. If no agreement is reached, the country is expected to head to parliamentary elections again.

The deadline was set by the Constitutional Court, which ruled last week that the 60-day period for electing the president began following the constitution of the Assembly.
