Interior Minister Ervin Demo has made his first visit outside the capital since taking office, travelling to Shkodër, where, together with State Police Director General Skënder Hita, he held a meeting with senior officials and officers of the State Police.
Discussions focused on the work of police structures, relations with the community, and the objectives that local police leaders are expected to pursue.
Demo called for public trust to be strengthened through day-to-day work, professionalism and tangible results. According to the minister, measurable targets should be set for each police directorate and monitored and assessed periodically.
One of the specific issues raised during the meeting was the fight against the cultivation of narcotic plants. The minister called for sustained efforts by police structures and measurable results in this area.
The meeting also addressed officers’ working conditions, including logistical needs, the vehicle fleet and financial compensation. Demo said concrete measures in these areas are being considered and could begin to be implemented in 2027.
Security was also linked to economic development and tourism in Shkodër. In this context, the minister called for closer cooperation between the Police and local institutions, particularly to respond to the needs of the community and the growing number of visitors.
At the end of the meeting, two State Police officers were recognised for their contribution and service.
