Albania to close fourth EU accession negotiation chapter on Tuesday

Albania expects to close Chapter 20 of its European Union accession negotiations on Tuesday. The chapter covers Enterprise and Industrial Policy.

The intergovernmental conference will follow approval by representatives of EU member states. They approved the decision through the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER).

This step will bring Albania’s provisionally closed chapters to 4 out of 33.

Meanwhile, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said the EU had planned 4 intergovernmental conferences with Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Ukraine. She said this would be the third time since June that the EU held 4 such conferences at the same time.

Kos said the development showed that EU enlargement was moving forward. She added that leading candidate countries were meeting their commitments and that the EU was doing its part.

Chapter 20 covers enterprise and industrial development, support for small and medium-sized businesses, investment conditions and economic competitiveness.
