Serbia’s Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić has reiterated his statements about Kosovo, claiming that the Serbian flag will once again fly in Prizren. The remarks were made during an election rally in Belgrade, where the Serbian politician also responded to criticism from former German Foreign Minister Michael Roth.
Dačić reacted to criticism that, according to him, Roth had expressed over his statement that the Serbian flag would once again be raised in Prizren.
“How dare Dačić say something like that? Well, I dare! We are different from others. We dare because that is what we believe, and because we defended Kosovo through war,” Dačić declared during the rally.
The Serbian politician, who said he was born in Prizren, also referred to the presence of the Serbian community in the city, comparing the current situation with that of three decades ago.
“And I especially dare to say this because I was born in Prizren, where today just over 20 Serbs live. Thirty years ago, more than 10,000 Serbs lived there,” he said.
Dačić also claimed that Prizren had been the first Serbian capital around eight centuries ago, reiterating his views on Serbia’s historical ties to Kosovo.
“It does not have to happen tomorrow, but it will happen, just as we have done before. We waited four and a half centuries, and we consecrated Kosovo in Kumanovo,” Dačić declared.
