Justice Minister says violence is never a solution

Justice Minister Toni Gogu responded to the violence during Tuesday’s protest outside the Ministry of Education. In a Facebook post accompanying footage from the demonstration, he said violence, calls for chaos and attacks on institutions and businesses were not solutions.

Gogu stressed that the right to protest is fundamental and must be respected. However, he said protesters also have a responsibility to respect the lives, safety and rights of others.

He added that violence serves no citizen’s interests. According to the minister, calm, responsibility and respect for the law benefit everyone.
