US Embassy Warns Americans to Avoid Protests Amid Risk of Escalation

The US Embassy in Tirana issued a security alert on Tuesday, warning American citizens that violent protests could spread near government buildings.

The embassy said a demonstration on Durrës Street, near Skanderbeg Square, turned violent after protesters threw stones. It warned that unrest could spread to nearby areas and government facilities, prompting a heavier police presence, traffic disruptions and road closures.

The embassy advised its staff to avoid demonstrations and urged US citizens to put their personal safety first. It also recommended monitoring local media and following instructions from local authorities for the latest updates.

In addition, the embassy urged Americans to stay alert, remain aware of their surroundings and limit distractions when moving through public areas. It also advised them to prepare an emergency plan and identify safe routes to leave the area.

The embassy further recommended that US citizens avoid drawing unnecessary attention to themselves while tensions remain high.
