Dritëro Agolli’s Original Manuscripts Return to the Home Where He Wrote Them

The Agolli House Studio hosted a cultural evening to mark the 95th anniversary of the birth of renowned Albanian writer Dritëro Agolli. The event took place in the house where he wrote many of his works and coincided with the second anniversary of the museum’s opening to the public.

For the first time, the museum displayed original manuscripts of some of Agolli’s best-known works, including the novels The Rose in the Glass, The Failure and The Devil’s Ark, as well as his Poem for My Father and Myself. Visitors also viewed poetry notebooks, handwritten stories and translations, and first editions of his books.

Agolli House Studio director Anisa Ymeri told ATA that returning the manuscripts to the place where Agolli created them held great significance for the museum. The exhibition allows visitors to explore not only his literary works but also his creative process, she said.

One of the exhibition’s highlights was a copy of The Second Face, a banned play written in 1968. Director Piro Mani had planned to stage the play at the People’s Theatre, but authorities did not allow it to proceed.

The exhibition also featured Agolli’s personal collection of fountain pens, writing pens and ink bottles, which he collected throughout his life.

In cooperation with Albania’s National Library, the museum also presented first editions of the writer’s works, offering visitors a valuable insight into his literary legacy.

The event brought together Agolli’s daughter, Elona, and the Dritëro Agolli Cultural Foundation, whose contributions help preserve and promote his heritage. Guitar music, personal memories and conversations among friends and readers filled the evening, turning the writer’s former home into a meeting place for those who continue to admire his work.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until December 31.
