Theth develops cultural heritage micro-routes to attract visitors

Albania is taking new steps to promote the cultural and natural heritage of Theth through specially designed tourist routes.

In Shkodër, around 20 representatives from cultural heritage institutions, local government, civil society, academia and local guides from Theth took part in a knowledge-sharing session under the project “From Mountainscapes to Micro-Routes.”

During the session, organisers presented a draft pilot route for Theth. The proposal forms part of a guide designed to help communities interpret and present their cultural heritage to visitors. It also builds on experiences shared with Cultural Heritage without Borders Kosova.

Participants then worked in groups to develop proposals for short tourist routes tailored to different types of visitors. Their ideas focused on creating experiences that allow tourists to discover Theth’s cultural traditions, local identity and natural landscapes.

The organisers will use the ideas and materials collected during the session to develop the final concept for the pilot route. The initiative aims to promote the area’s heritage through organised visitor experiences and encourage tourists to explore Theth beyond its well-known natural attractions.

The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodër organised the session in cooperation with the Pesegram Centre.

The project, titled “From Mountainscapes to Micro-Routes: Interpretive Planning Toolkit for Community-Based Heritage in Albania,” receives support from the Tirana Regional Office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The initiative operates under the European Union-funded programme “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans,” which promotes dialogue and strengthens the cultural and creative sectors across the region.
