Masked protesters continued to clash with police in Tirana on Thursday. They damaged public spaces and private businesses as unrest spread across the capital.
After vandalizing businesses on Elbasan Street, masked youths set a kiosk ablaze on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard. Flames engulfed the structure and sent thick smoke into the air. Protesters also set fire to a pine tree along the boulevard.
Meanwhile, police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowds. Officers also formed a cordon in front of the Prime Minister’s Office to prevent protesters from approaching the building. They used water to push back the demonstrators, while some protesters threw pyrotechnic devices at police.
Violence and vandalism continued throughout the day, targeting businesses and state institutions at several locations across Tirana. Police intervened again, using tear gas and pressurized water to disperse the crowds. However, protesters spread through Rinia Park and set fire to several kiosks and advertising signs around Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard.
