Kosovo’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca, said that Serbia’s territorial ambitions pose a serious threat to Kosovo’s sovereignty and regional stability.
In an interview with Hungary Insider, Konjufca said that Serbia’s territorial ambitions must be understood through the connection between its political rhetoric and concrete actions.
“When Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister declares that the Serbian flag will, sooner or later, fly over Prizren again, while Milan Radoičić, who admitted to organising the terrorist attack in Banjska, appears publicly alongside Vučić’s son at a rally of the ruling party, we see a troubling continuity between Serbia’s territorial ambitions and the political protection afforded to those responsible for armed aggression against the Republic of Kosovo,” Konjufca said.
He pointed out that Kosovo has directly experienced the consequences of this doctrine.
He recalled that in September 2023, a heavily armed group carried out a terrorist attack in Banjska, northern Kosovo, killing Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku.
He also noted that in April 2026, a court in Pristina found that the operation had been intended to separate northern Kosovo from the rest of the country and annex it to Serbia.
“In the days following the attack, Serbia amassed tanks, artillery and mechanised infantry along our border. The scale of this military mobilisation prompted the White House to issue an extraordinary public warning, describing the deployment as unprecedented and demanding the withdrawal of Serbian forces. NATO subsequently reinforced its peacekeeping presence in Kosovo.
In November 2024, a terrorist attack involving explosives targeted the Ibër-Lepenc canal, one of the most critical components of our water and energy infrastructure. Since then, the Special Prosecution has presented evidence which, in its assessment, implicates Serbian state structures in the preparation of the attack.
These developments demonstrate a continuing pattern of territorial revisionism, pursued through political intimidation and attempts to destabilise the functioning of our state.
The threat to the Republic of Kosovo is real, and the international community must recognise the seriousness of this pattern,” Konjufca said.
