Ali Ahmeti Reacts to Protests in Tirana: No Form of Violence Can Be the Answer to a Crisis

The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, has reacted to the violent protests in Tirana, condemning the use of violence and calling on both protesters and state institutions to avoid further escalation.

In a statement, Ahmeti stressed that clashes and the destruction of property cannot bring solutions, urging citizens to express their demands with dignity and in accordance with democratic principles.

“No form of violence, from any side, can be the answer to a crisis. Confrontation cannot replace dialogue, nor can destruction bring about the desired change,” Ahmeti said.

He called on students and protesters not to allow tensions and clashes to overshadow their message, emphasising that behind every damaged business lie people’s hard work, efforts and sacrifices.

At the same time, the DUI leader stressed that state institutions also bear a particular responsibility for maintaining public order and security, calling on the police to act with professionalism, impartiality and full respect for citizens’ rights.

According to Ahmeti, the situation must be resolved through dialogue and political responsibility, while Albania’s political class should set aside party interests and prioritise the interests of the country.

“An Albania in flames is an Albania that belongs to us all, and its loss is a loss for every one of us,” Ahmeti stressed, calling for restraint and reflection at this time of heightened tensions.
