On International Intangible Cultural Heritage Day, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja paid tribute to the bearers of Albanian traditions who preserve and pass the country’s cultural heritage from one generation to the next.
Gonxhja highlighted the importance of protecting this living heritage, including iso-polyphony, songs accompanied by the lahuta, traditional dances, handicrafts and rituals.
He stressed that safeguarding intangible cultural heritage starts with the people who keep these traditions alive. The younger generation must also learn, experience and carry them forward to ensure their survival.
Intangible cultural heritage plays a vital role in preserving Albania’s collective memory and national identity. It reflects the values, customs and traditions that Albanians have inherited and passed down through generations.
