Central bank assures public that deposits are safe and payments continue normally

The Bank of Albania said citizens’ deposits and savings remain safe despite damage to some bank branches and ATMs during recent youth protests. It also confirmed that payment services continue to operate normally.

In a public statement, the central bank said it was closely monitoring recent developments. It stressed that the safety of citizens, bank customers and financial institution employees remains a priority.

The bank said physical damage to some branches does not threaten customer deposits or banks’ financial stability. However, some branches have temporarily restricted services to protect staff and customers.

Meanwhile, the central bank said it remains in constant contact with commercial banks and relevant institutions. It urged citizens and businesses to follow official bank announcements and use alternative banking channels where possible.

The Bank of Albania also called on protesters to respect and protect banks, their infrastructure and employees. It said safeguarding these institutions ensures the continuity of services that support households and businesses.

The central bank reaffirmed its commitment to financial stability, reliable payment services and public confidence in the banking system.
