European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has praised Montenegro’s progress towards European Union membership, stressing that the coming weeks and months will be decisive for the European future of the Western Balkan countries.
Speaking at the Berlin Process Summit in Budva, Montenegro, Kos highlighted that each country in the region faces significant challenges and key objectives on its path towards European integration.
According to Kos, Montenegro has made the most progress in the EU accession process, while the next phase will be crucial for concluding negotiations and moving closer to membership.
“The coming weeks and months will be decisive for all of us. For Montenegro, the defining moment will be crossing the finish line in the accession process,” Kos stated.
Regarding Albania, Kos called for maintaining the pace of reforms and continuing progress towards European Union membership.
“This is the country I have visited more than any other this year, which is only natural, as Montenegro is the country making the most progress in the European Union accession process.
I am always happy to return and see firsthand how a country determined to become a member of the European Union is moving forward.
The coming weeks and months will be decisive for all of us. For Montenegro, the defining moment will be crossing the finish line in the accession process. For Serbia, it will be next Sunday’s elections. For Albania, it will be maintaining momentum on its path towards the European Union. And, of course, for Kosovo, the decisive choice is to continue acting in accordance with international law and the rule of law.
That is precisely why I believe it is very positive that the leaders of the region and the entire Berlin Process have gathered today in this beautiful country, Montenegro,” Kos said.
