Businesses to obtain economic activity classification certificates

The government has approved new rules for business registration and data publication through the National Business Centre.

Businesses must obtain an NVE certificate from the National Economic Chamber. The certificate identifies the type of economic activity a business carries out. New businesses must submit it through the e-Albania portal within 30 calendar days of registration. Existing businesses have one year to comply once the required technical conditions are in place. Authorities will verify the codes annually.

Businesses must also submit annual financial statements electronically through e-Albania. The National Business Centre will share the data with the General Directorate of Taxes and reject incomplete or inaccurate applications. It will provide free electronic extracts from the commercial register to businesses and other interested parties.

The rules also provide for company data exchange through the European Union’s Business Registers Interconnection System. These provisions will apply after Albania joins the European Union.

The decision takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette. Provisions on financial statements, NVE certificates, business locations and register extracts are due to take effect on January 1, 2027, subject to technical readiness.
