PM Kurti in Budva: Radoičić Remains Free and Protected by Serbia, Banjska Attack Deserves a Collective Response

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti attended the Berlin Process Summit in Budva, Montenegro, on Thursday. During his speech, Kurti called for Kosovo to be granted EU candidate status and for accession negotiations with the European Union to begin. He also called for Kosovo’s membership in NATO.

Kurti also criticised Serbia’s actions towards Kosovo, arguing that it has employed hostile methods similar to those used by Russia. He stressed that Milan Radoičić, who claimed responsibility for the Banjska attack, remains free and is protected by Serbia.

“In Kosovo, a neighbour has used the same methods, for the same purposes, against our country. Last month marked three years since the terrorist attack in the northern village of Banjska, where our police sergeant, Afrim Bunjaku, was killed.

Next month will mark two years since the manifestation of kinetic warfare through an attack on critical infrastructure, with the explosion at the Ibër-Lepenc water supply canal in the northern village of Varagë. Both attacks were carried out in a way that allowed for plausible deniability. The man who admitted responsibility for Banjska, Milan Radoičić, a criminal and local proxy, still roams freely, openly in public, protected by the same state apparatus,” Kurti said.

He stated that such attacks against a democracy should be considered attacks against Europe as a whole.

“An attack on a European democracy is an attack on all of Europe and deserves a collective response, because a reaction developed on a case-by-case basis does not serve as a deterrent. For Kosovo, NATO membership would also provide deterrence,” he added.

Kurti also called for action regarding the situation of ethnic Albanians in the Preševo Valley.

“I urge you to take a closer look at the Preševo Valley, where Albanians are gradually being pushed out of institutions, public life and civic participation, to the point where staying is becoming much more difficult than leaving. Human dignity and human rights are foremost among the values we must share,” Kurti said.
