European People’s Party condemns violence at protests in Albania

The European People’s Party (EPP) has called for respect for peaceful protest in Albania. In a statement on X, the centre-right political group said authorities must uphold this right. It called for immediate, thorough and independent investigations into allegations of excessive, unlawful or disproportionate use of force. It also stressed that law enforcement officers must always act proportionately.

The EPP said Albania’s future depended on democracy, prosperity, the rule of law and the fight against corruption. It called for greater government accountability and more opportunities for citizens at home. The party stressed that unlawful violence and attacks against property or personal integrity had no place in a democracy. It urged all sides to address current tensions through dialogue and democratic engagement. The EPP also emphasized that young people’s voices must be heard and their right to peaceful protest protected.
