Students continue protest outside prime minister’s office

Students continued their protest outside the prime minister’s office in Tirana for an 11th day. University lecturers and other citizens joined them again today.

Lecturers and students first gathered outside the Polytechnic University of Tirana. Aleksandër Kovaçi, head of the University Lecturers’ Union, called for greater cooperation among intellectuals in support of the cause. He said the union stood with students and opposed what he described as dictatorial control over universities.

Meanwhile, medical students wearing white uniforms and surgical masks joined the protest outside the government building. They marched through Tirana, chanting slogans in support of student unity.

Doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other healthcare workers also backed the demonstration. In a statement, they called on Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign and urged the formation of a transitional government in line with the Constitution. They said this would help resolve the crisis peacefully and ensure the proper functioning of institutions.

The healthcare professionals also condemned the failure to assist injured people and called for a swift investigation.

The University Workers’ Union continues to support the students, who have protested in Tirana for 11 days against the political class and demanding better education and living conditions.
