Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a statement today on the new legislative amendments concerning public gatherings, explained that the measures provide for security perimeters around sensitive sites and allow police to restrict gatherings for up to 72 hours near educational and healthcare institutions, as well as places of worship.
“For individuals who incite violence on social media, the removal of the post will initially be requested, and psychological support will be offered if necessary. In cases of refusal, police may initiate criminal proceedings under existing offences.
The amendments also propose making the concealment of identity during public gatherings a criminal offence, following the French model.
Fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 Albanian lek are envisaged for disobeying police orders, while concealing one’s identity after an order to disperse will carry a fine of up to 500,000 lek.
Obstructing traffic will be punishable by a fine of 5,000 lek for each participant,” Rama said.
