Prime Minister Edi Rama commented on the student protests and acts of violence recorded during demonstrations in Tirana, focusing on the damage caused. He described these acts as a form of “inhumanity” that, according to him, imposes the will of protesters on the majority of citizens who wish to live peacefully.
During the press conference, Rama also addressed the 2027 budget, pension increases, and measures the government intends to introduce to ease the financial burden on families facing rising living costs.
The prime minister stated that economic growth has enabled the government to double annual pension increases in the coming years. He acknowledged the rising prices of food and diesel.
Rama also announced that the 2027 budget would be submitted to Parliament and would exceed €10 billion for the first time. According to him, public debt has also fallen to a historically low level.
Excerpts from Rama’s remarks:
“The economy has given us the opportunity to double pension increases in each subsequent year. This year’s increase will be doubled. I have already said this to those who made the Flamingo protest so grand. I am aware of the rising costs of food and diesel.
Just three days ago, I told you that I would announce new measures to ease the burden on ordinary families. Today, we are submitting the 2027 budget to Parliament, exceeding the €10 billion threshold for the first time in history. Public debt has also fallen to a historically low level.
All the figures and facts show that the economy is among the most dynamic in the region. Reaching the €30 billion mark in gross national product illustrates this optimistic outlook.
In the 2027 budget, we have planned a series of ambitious measures. The message is clear: More businesses, more companies, more investment, and more wealthy people in Albania. That is why we remain strong advocates of fair taxation.”
