SheAds project highlights Albanian girls breaking barriers in sport

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja has highlighted 3 young athletes who are challenging gender stereotypes in sport. Their dedication and daily sacrifices show that talent and success have no gender, he said.

Gonxhja shared the stories of footballer Amarda Xhebrahimi, sport shooter Sindi Sula and wrestler Albina Drazhi on social media. Their achievements challenge traditional views of disciplines often considered male-dominated.

“Three sports, one message: girls belong in every arena,” the minister said. He linked their stories to the European Union’s SheAds project, which promotes greater visibility and gender equality for women in sport, with a particular focus on Albania.

The University of Sports leads the project in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports. The European Union funds the initiative through its Erasmus+ programme.

Beyond medals and results, the athletes’ stories aim to inspire girls to pursue their ambitions without being held back by prejudice. Through SheAds, the ministry seeks to promote positive role models and encourage more inclusive sports coverage, free from gender stereotypes.
