The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will have a budget of 3.9 billion lek, approximately €40 million, for 2027, marking a 6% increase compared to the previous year. The draft budget was presented by Minister Ferit Hoxha to the Parliamentary Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Of the total funding, 1.3 billion lek will be allocated to strengthening Albania’s diplomatic missions. Hoxha described the budget as a record high, emphasizing that it aims to enhance the country’s international capabilities and achieve its strategic objectives.
The main priority for 2027 remains the completion of accession negotiations with the European Union. According to the minister, Albania aims to conclude the technical phase of negotiations by December next year, with the goal of joining the EU within this decade.
The ministry’s plan is divided into nine priorities, which also include strengthening Albania’s role in NATO, supporting Kosovo and Albanians across the region, promoting stability in the Western Balkans, and expanding strategic partnerships.
Economic diplomacy, multilateral relations, support for the diaspora, and the preservation of national identity will also be key areas of focus. As part of these efforts, Albanian-language education is expected to expand through the “Teachers for Italy” initiative, alongside the existing “Teachers for Greece” program.
Hoxha also announced plans to modernize consular services, making them available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while expanding Albania’s diplomatic presence and opening new diplomatic missions.
Another planned development is the establishment of the International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Agency, as well as the strengthening of the Diplomatic Academy and career development within the foreign service.
