The Albanian-American Development Fund will finance and carry out the full digitisation of the Albanian Radio and Television (RTSH) archive. Director General Eni Vasili announced the decision, describing it as a historic moment for the country’s national memory.
The fund’s board approved the project following repeated requests from RTSH’s management team, particularly Vasili.
She said the archive preserves 75 years of national history through television footage, films, concerts, documentaries and other productions. These recordings have safeguarded memories and voices from generations of Albanians.
However, Vasili warned that the ageing tapes and reels faced irreversible deterioration. Thousands of hours of television material risked being lost.
Following its own studies and repeated appeals from RTSH, the fund’s board decided to finance and carry out the complete digitisation project itself.
