TIRANA, April 3 – On 1 April, the United Center in Chicago hosted a unique cultural event during the NBA game between the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers. The event, Night of Albanian Heritage, was organised by the Albanian-American community in Illinois.
The community said the event marked a first for Albanian representation on one of Chicago’s largest stages. Music and traditional dance showcased cultural heritage from all Albanian regions. Over 650 attendees joined the celebrations.
Children performed traditional dances wearing national dresses on the court. “Hearts as high as mountains,” said Fatos Brahimi, capturing the joy of the community
Performances featured groups Arbëria Chicago, Shqiponjat [Eagles] of Chikago Ensemble, and the Albanian school Kongresi i Manastirit [Congress of Manastir]. Creative director and choreographer Altin Naska led the artistic programme.
Organisers noted that while cultural events occasionally occur during NBA games, this was the first in nearly 80 years of league history to be entirely led by the Albanian community. The initiative highlighted both heritage and the growing presence of Albanians in the United States.
