Interior minister Lamallari says US embassy advisory standard, police boost security measures

TIRANA, April 3 – Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari confirmed that Albanian police have increased security measures at critical sites for some time. He spoke during a press briefing addressing the US embassy’s recent security advisory.

Lamallari said the embassy notice is standard and mirrors similar alerts in other countries, including EU member states. He emphasized that Albania already assessed risks and deployed necessary measures at public spaces and critical infrastructure.

The minister noted that all law enforcement agencies coordinated with international partners. They evaluated threats and prepared action plans to protect citizens and vital locations. He highlighted that the police strengthened capacities against hybrid threats, including disinformation campaigns and attempts to create instability.

Lamallari also stressed that embassy advisories aim to inform the public, not indicate a new danger. He instructed police units, including counter-terrorism and criminal investigation divisions, to report on measures taken and communications with embassy officials.

He added that the US embassy confirmed the advisory as standard protocol. Lamallari praised police efforts, noting their long-term preparation allows rapid response to any threat. He warned that portraying Albania as unsafe could harm the country, stressing the importance of maintaining public confidence.

The minister linked these measures to broader security concerns in the Middle East and the hybrid threat environment affecting all EU countries. He said Albania continues to align its security standards with international partners.

Lamallari concluded that police operations and preventive measures aim to protect citizens, secure infrastructure, and maintain public order. He urged continued vigilance, cooperation among agencies, and strict adherence to security protocols across the country.
