Kurti: Meetings to Be Held Next Week on the Presidential Issue

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, announced that meetings are expected to take place next week regarding the issue of the presidency.

Kurti emphasized that he is in continuous communication with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, and the head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza.

“There will be meetings next week,” he stated.

A few days earlier, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo suspended a decree issued by President Vjosa Osmani, ruling that the decree had produced no legal effect.

The court granted an additional 34-day deadline for the election of a new president, assessing that from the moment of the Assembly’s constitution until March 4, the full 60-day timeframe could not be utilized.

According to the court, this measure will remain in force until a final decision on the case is made. Its purpose, as stated in the reasoning, is to prevent the possibility of irreparable damage to the constitutional order and the democratic functioning of the country’s key institutions.

In practice, this means that President Osmani cannot set a date for new elections while the measure remains active. She had dissolved the Assembly through her decree, a move that was challenged before the Constitutional Court by the ruling party of Prime Minister Kurti, Vetëvendosje.
