Albania sees 11% rise in tourist arrivals in March despite global challenges

TIRANA, April 7 – Albania continues to grow as a preferred tourist destination, with visitor numbers steadily increasing. In March 2026, the country welcomed 609,363 foreign tourists, up 59,598 visitors, or roughly 11%, compared with March 2025, according to Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports Blendi Gonxhja.

Amid global challenges, Albania stands out as a safe and increasingly attractive year-round destination. From nature to cultural heritage, hospitality, cuisine, and the arts, the country’s tourism offerings are gaining international attention,” Minister Gonxhja said.

Tourist growth extends across the first three months of the year. More visitors purchased tickets for historic cultural parks, protected areas, and castles. Authorities aim to develop year-round tourism by offering diverse experiences in nature, culture, history, adventure, traditions, and cuisine.

Historic sites also show strong interest. Gjirokastër Castle received 14,253 visitors in March 2026, a 57.56% increase from the previous year, according to the Regional Directorate of Tourism and Culture. The rise highlights growing global attention to Albania’s cultural heritage and historic cities.

Albania’s positive tourism trend underscores its appeal as a safe, diverse, and accessible destination in the Mediterranean region.
