TIRANA, April 8 – Holy Tuesday, observed weekly since March 17, has made St. Anthony Church in Laç a center for prayers. People come from across Albania.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared footage today on social media. The video shows the sacred site, which has become a place of unity for believers of all faiths.
Pilgrims honor one of the most recognized saints in Albania and Europe. Devotees arrive regardless of religion.
The weekly ritual begins just outside Laç. Worshippers start climbing the surrounding hill. The first stop is at the footprints and resting place attributed to St. Anthony.
Even during the communist period, when pilgrimage was banned, believers continued to visit the site. On June 13, 1990, the church was filled with worshippers who spontaneously joined the celebration of St. Anthony.
