Rama: New pension scheme will complement the current system

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the Albanian government is preparing a new pension scheme. He emphasized it will not replace the current system but enrich it.

During a visit to an industrial complex in Durrës, Rama explained the scheme. Employees can save a portion of their salary in a special fund. The state will match the contribution equally.

“For example, if someone saves €1 per month, the state adds €1. The total becomes €2. This applies to public sector workers via the state and private sector workers via their companies,” Rama said.

He added that the scheme strengthens the link between private companies and employees. It provides security for those who invest in their pension.

Rama also stressed the growing need for highly specialized human resources. Technology cannot replace all human labor. Companies now require skilled specialists. He noted that some companies have far fewer specialists than needed. For instance, one company currently has 15 qualified specialists but needs around 40.

This scheme, he concluded, supports both workers’ future and the development of the workforce.
