Parliament approves marina law and anti-money laundering changes; Olta Rrushaj elected to Bank of Albania Supervisory Council

The Albanian Parliament held a plenary session today. Lawmakers debated governance and EU integration issues.

First, opposition leader Gazment Bardhi criticized the strategic investment law. He said it does not serve public interest. Instead, he said it benefits a limited group.

Next, MP Jorida Tabaku opposed changes to Parliament’s Rules of Procedure. She said the changes limit opposition rights. She also said lawmakers did not consult properly.

Meanwhile, Socialist Group leader Taulant Balla defended the government’s record. He said the opposition did not support EU-related laws. He added that Parliament has passed 23 EU-aligned acts this term.

In addition, MPs debated fuel prices. Opposition MP Enno Bozdo proposed a bill to reduce taxes on fuel. He said lower taxes would reduce prices. However, the majority rejected the fast-track procedure.

At the same time, MPs held an interpellation with Agriculture Minister Andis Salla. They discussed milk safety and food control. The minister said the sector faces structural challenges. He also promised stricter quality controls, especially for aflatoxin contamination.

Then, Parliament passed key legislation. It approved amendments on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing with 76 votes in favor.

Finance Minister Petrit Malaj welcomed the law. He said it strengthens financial transparency and integrity.

Moreover, Tourism Minister Blendi Gonxhja supported changes to the marina law. He said the reforms boost tourism development and improve the legal framework.

Parliament also rejected several opposition proposals for parliamentary inquiry committees. These related to the Albanian Road Authority and the National Agency for Information Society.

Finally, lawmakers elected Olta Rrushaj to the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania with 74 votes in favor.
