“Pensions Will Increase Every January,” PM Rama: Card for Basic Goods if Prices Rise

Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting on Friday with pensioners from Unit No. 2. Rama stated that the real increase in pensions began in January and will continue progressively every January.

“At last, the moment has come when the economy has made this possible; starting from January, you are receiving higher pensions. Every January, pensions will increase — next January the increase will be double that of this January, in 2029 it will be four times higher, and in 2030 five times higher. We will review the current scheme for self-employed pensioners and for those who continue to work, as there is room to make some changes in favor of pensioners. We have also discussed support for people with disabilities, who have the right to be treated equally. At the moment there is a differentiation; however, someone who has lost the ability to work due to their job cannot be left behind compared to someone who has never worked due to their condition,” Rama said.

The head of government stated that pensioners will be the first to be protected if prices continue to rise due to the war, by providing them with a household spending card for basic basket products.

“You understand politics better than others, so vote for this government. I want to say something else: we have had a difficult path, also due to reasons beyond our control, which, as you can see, are becoming even more present — from the pandemic to the war in Ukraine and also in the Middle East. These factors affect fuel prices, which can jump beyond any prediction, and we hope that the ceasefire will lead to a final solution before fuel prices are reflected in food prices. If they do affect food prices, the first people we will think of are you; others come afterward, and along with you, families in need. For them, we are preparing a new scheme based on a household spending card tied to a basic basket, so that VAT funds go directly to families,” Rama said.
