Diaspora Summit seen as key cooperation platform, EU membership remains strategic priority for Albania

TIRANA, April 10 – Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said the Fourth Diaspora Summit represents an important national event aimed at strengthening ties between Albanian institutions and citizens living abroad. He spoke during a media conference ahead of the gathering.

He said the main objective is to turn the summit into a practical cooperation platform. In this context, he stressed the need to build on previous achievements and deepen diaspora integration in national processes. He added that stronger institutional links remain a central goal of the initiative.

Hoxha said the summit aims to ensure a more structured and engaged diaspora. He explained that meetings and platforms under the initiative are designed to increase participation in national development. At the same time, he said the focus remains on improving long-term cooperation mechanisms.

Turning to European Union integration, Hoxha described EU membership as Albania’s strategic priority. He called the goal the core driver of state reforms and policy direction. In this way, he linked domestic reforms directly to the accession process.

He said integration goes beyond a technical procedure. Instead, he described it as a deep transformation of the country. According to him, decisions are taken in Brussels, while their impact is felt directly in Albania. He also said international partners have confirmed visible progress in the country’s reform agenda.

Finally, he said no actor is excluded from the integration process. He stressed that broad participation remains essential for achieving membership. In conclusion, he reiterated that EU accession represents the ultimate measure of national progress and reform success.
