TIRANA, April 12 – Orthodox believers across Albania marked Easter at midnight, celebrating the Resurrection of Christ with prayers, candles, and messages of hope. The traditional greeting “Christ is risen! Truly risen!” echoed in churches nationwide.
In Berat, hundreds gathered at St. Demetrius Cathedral, where Metropolitan Asti led the service. Believers filled both the church and surrounding areas, joining in prayers for peace, health, and well-being. At the same time, Korça drew large numbers of worshippers from across the country, reinforcing its role as a key spiritual centre.
Clergy delivered messages focused on faith and resilience. Metropolitan Anastas of Korça said life given by God stands stronger than forces of destruction. In Vlora, midnight services combined prayer with traditional rituals, while church bells marked the moment of resurrection.
Religious leaders also called for unity and compassion. Father Kostandin Prifti urged people to avoid conflict and show kindness. In Fier, Metropolitan Nikola Hyka said the resurrection confirms that good ultimately prevails over evil.
In Shkodër, believers gathered at the “Nativity of Christ” Church for the vigil led by Father Nikolla Petani. Across the country, fireworks lit the sky as worshippers carried lit candles home, continuing a long-standing Easter tradition.
