TIRANA, April 12 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania ranks first in the region for improvements in public procurement, according to a European Union report prepared through SIGMA (Support for Improvement in Governance and Management) in cooperation with the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development).
PM Rama presented the findings in his weekly podcast, where he described the report as highly significant. He said the data challenges negative perceptions about corruption in Albania.
The report, he added, evaluates public procurement systems across the region. It highlights Albania’s progress in transparency and administrative quality. Rama said the findings come from an independent EU-backed instrument with strong professional credibility.
He also said the results show a gap between public perception and measured performance. According to him, the report demonstrates improvements in mechanisms that ensure transparency and efficiency in public spending.
Prime Minister stressed that Albania stands first in the region in this assessment. He linked the result to ongoing reforms in governance and procurement procedures supported by EU standards.
