KED Bars Alaudin Malaj from Candidacy for Member of the Constitutional Court

The Justice Appointments Council (KED) has officially decided to bar Alaudin Malaj from running for the position of judge at the Constitutional Court.

The decision is related to the vacant position announced by the Institution of the President of the Republic on October 31, 2025.

“The Justice Appointments Council (KED), in its full composition and with the participation of invited representatives, in accordance with point 2 of Article 233 of Law No. 115/2016 ‘On the Governance Bodies of the Justice System,’ held its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, following the agenda published in the official notice.

After the presentation of the reports prepared by the rapporteurs regarding the candidates who applied for the vacancies announced by the Institution of the President of the Republic, the Justice Appointments Council decided:

To bar Mr. Alaudin Malaj from candidacy for the vacant position of judge at the Constitutional Court, announced by the President of the Republic on October 31, 2025,” states the decision taken today by KED.

Alaudin Malaj is a former chairman of the Tirana Court of Appeal. Five years ago, due to his resignation prior to the vetting process, the Independent Qualification Commission, after accepting his resignation, decided to prohibit Malaj from being appointed within the justice system for a period of 15 years.
