TIRANA, April 15 – The General Director of the State Police, Skënder Hita, said Albania has strengthened border security and intensified efforts against illegal migration networks. He spoke during the panel on migration management and diaspora engagement at the fourth Diaspora Summit in Tirana.
Hita said police units have increased coordination with border police to manage migration flows more effectively. He said authorities have dismantled several smuggling networks operating mainly from Greece through Albania toward European Union countries.
He stated that police operations targeted organizers and transport facilitators involved in irregular migration. He added that Albania has expanded cooperation with international partners to prevent illegal crossings and criminal facilitation schemes linked to financial gain.
Hita said border crossing points have improved through new technology and upgraded infrastructure. He also noted increased police presence in tourist areas, roads, and public spaces to strengthen safety during the tourist season.
He said these measures aim to improve both public order and visitor security. He added that community policing has been reinforced to ensure closer engagement with citizens and vulnerable groups.
